Ronnie was a firm fans favourite who had two spells with the Terrors and made Club history in August 1974 by becoming the first player to sign a contract with Tooting & Mitcham United. He would score on his debut in a 2-1 league win at Woking in August 1974.
He was a talented player whose flair and ability kept Tooting buzzing during our great FA Cup run in the 1975-76 campaign. He scored in our record 9-0 Isthmian League victory against Clapton at old home Sandy Lane.
As a youngster he started his career at Tottenham Hotspur, then spent time at Swindon Town, Millwall, Cambridge United and spent one season at Brighton & Hove Albion under the great Brian Clough. He also had a spells at Kettering Town and Barnet.
Ronnie made 78 appearances in the Football League scoring 11 goals. Ronnie, was a great competitor who often found his way into the referee’s notebook. He played in our FA Cup tie against Crystal Palace which was narrowly lost at Sandy Lane in 1974. He was our Club Captain, but would leave for pastures new at the end of the 1975-76 campaign joining Leytonstone, returning to us briefly during the 1982-83 season playing a handful of games before moving on again.
He would make 146 appearances for the Terrors and scored 29 goals, which included a hat-trick against Enfield who were Isthmian League Champions at that particular time. He won the Surrey Senior Cup with us in 1976 when we defeated Sutton United and was in the losing team again in the County Cup Final of 1983 when we lost to Sutton United.
He did come back to the club for a player’s reunion in recent times. In his prime one of the best players to represent Tooting & Mitcham United.
