Match Report

The Terrors eased into round 3 of the League Cup thanks to a comprehensive victory against struggling Premier (north) counterparts Edgware & Kingsbury.

The North London side arrived at Imperial Fields without a league victory, and departed it after a four goal humbling that could have been far greater. Home manager Jamie Byatt took the opportunity to rest some of the first-team regulars and give a run-out to some of those players whose contribution to the season so far had been restricted by injury or other commitments.

It didn’t take long for Tooting to go in front, less than two minutes had been completed when Alex Cruickshank created space on the edge of the box, and fired a crisp shot past visiting keeper Aram Sarkassian. Edgware did get into the game somewhat as the half progressed, hitting the post and forcing Terrors keeper Toby McKimm into a couple of good saves, but once Tooting doubled the advantage right at the start of the second half, there was no way back for them. Alex netted his second of the evening, and fifth of the season, when he latched onto a cross from the right, just inside the six yard box which gave Sarkassian no chance. It was one-way traffic for much of the remainder of the game, but it wasn’t until a penalty kick was awarded for handball seven minutes from the end – comfortably swept home by Max Oldham – that a third goal was bagged. Academy graduate Geovanni Johnson had replaced two-goal hero Alex early in the second period, and celebrated his first-team debut by tapping home from close-range six minutes into injury-time after Max Oldham’s low cross had eluded the Edgware defence.
