Everybody at Tooting & Mitcham United are saddened to hear of the recent passing of our former player Phil Summerill aged 78. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. Our club historian, Ian Bullock has written the following tribute to Phil.
“Phil was a striker who joined us in December 1978 from local rivals Wimbledon and spent three seasons with the Terrors before leaving at the end of the 1980/81 campaign. He made his debut for Tooting & Mitcham on 9/12/1978 away to Hayes in an Isthmian league encounter and scored in a 5-2 victory. He would go onto play over 50 games for the club scoring 11 goals. Phil previously saw service with Birmingham City whom he joined from school in 1963 and scored 52 goals in 132 games for them being their top scorer in three successive seasons in his stay with the Blues playing with the Latchfords and Trevor Francis. He also played for Huddersfield Town and Millwall as well as several more years in non-league football.”
