Match Report
Two goals deep into injury time saw us snatch victory from the jaws of defeat during our Bank Holiday Monday trip to Epsom & Ewell.
On a green but incredibly bumpy pitch, the home side came close to opening the scoring in the eighth minute, but Toby McKimm pulled off a fine save to deny a Jason Bloor free-kick. The rest of the first half remained fairly even, but just four minutes before the break, Blessing Homebessa found space and drilled a shot into the corner past the diving McKimm to give the hosts the lead.
We came out with much more purpose and positivity in the second half and were deservedly level by the 49th minute. Alex Filipe floated in a dangerous free-kick which was only half-cleared, allowing Michael Onovwigun to fire home the equaliser.
Parity lasted only six minutes, however, as a long clearance caught our backline out, allowing Homebessa to run through and regain the lead for the home side.
We threw everything at Epsom and put them under immense pressure, but as the clock ticked into injury time, it looked like it was going to be one of those frustrating afternoons. Our relentless hard work finally paid off in the 92nd minute when a trademark Lewis Jackson long throw reached Antonio Simeone, who bravely forced the ball home to make it 2–2.
The drama wasn’t over. Just three minutes later, William Efambe – making a welcome return from injury – capped off a sensational comeback by firing a low, driving shot into the back of the net to seal an unbelievable winner.
