Tooting & Mitcham United

Carlton would make the move to Tooting & Mitcham in July 1983 from Bromley having previously playing for Dulwich Hamlet.

He was a skilful winger with a keen eye for goal and in November 1983 he scored a hat-trick against Carshalton Athletic in our home Isthmian League encounter but still ended up on the losing side as we went down 4-5 to the Robins. He would score ten goals for Tooting in the1983-84 campaign.

He would make 65 appearances for the Terrors scoring 16 times. Carlton signed for Wimbledon in December 1984 for a fee in the region of £3000. At Wimbledon he would enjoy a good career making 138 league appearances for them, scoring 26 goals as the Dons established themselves as a First Division side and became founder members of the new Premier League. He then had a spell with Carlisle United.

When he retired he went into the coaching and management side of the game.

Carlton sadly passed away in April 2025.
