Tooting & Mitcham United

Denis Lawton Tooting and Mitcham PhysioDenis Lawton, our former physio who sadly passed away on 14th May,

Ian Bullock, our club historian wrote the following about Denis.

Denis was physio for the Tooting & Mitcham United Youth team during the 1990s and also did some coaching for the side.

In the late 1990s he became physio for the Tooting & Mitcham United First Team and would be involved in over 700 games in the role until leaving the club at the end of the 2009-10 campaign, when manager at the time Billy Smith also departed. That period was a successful one for the Terrors with some silverware won and the FA Cup First Round Proper reached.

In the 2000-01 season he was also part of the back up team that lifted the Isthmian League Division Two Title. His son James played for the Tooting & Mitcham Youth Team during the 1990s.

After leaving the Terrors Denis linked up with AFC Croydon Athletic where he would be in their dugout for over 500 matches. As at Tooting & Mitcham he was very highly thought off and a valuable member of the team.

On a personal note Denis was a good friend and I had the pleasure of sponsoring him in the Tooting programme. A great man who will be sadly missed by all that knew him.
