Tooting got off to the perfect start in this tricky fixture, going one up inside the first minute. Shay Brennan retrieved a ball that seemed to be heading out of play and laid it off for Alex Cruickshank to cross for Geovanni Johnson to head home from just inside the six-yard box. Cue some acrobatic celebrations from the goalscorer!
A flowing half of football saw both sides squander chances before the hosts levelled matters – some good work by Josh Smith presented Alfie Edmonds with a sight of goal, and he beat Toby McKimm from just inside the area with a powerful strike.
In the third minute of the second half, Terrors fans and players breathed a sigh of relief when Stan Jones’ well hit shot came back off the crossbar. Both sides continued to compete well, but it was the visitors who went back in front seventeen minutes from time with a curling free-kick from Conor Melody that eluded everybody before nestling in the corner of the net. Badshot hit wood again, but got the point they probably deserved when they were awarded a penalty. Skipper Luis Hamblin emphatically buried the kick, giving Toby no chance, but Tooting remain unbeaten away from home.
